A typical timeline of events

A typical timeline of events


On average within two weeks of meeting the insolvency practitioner, the company is placed into administration and the following activities take place:

  • Meet and subsequently instruct IP to help
  • Solicitors help produce court documents
  • Notice of Intention to appoint administrator lodged with court and moratorium obtained once lodged
  • Company placed into administration within ten days of filing of notice
  • Administrators take control


With Moratorium:

Day 1 – Directors have free initial meeting with IP – IP ultimately recommends administration after careful condensation of circumstances and eliminating alternative options

Day 3 – Directors potentially have second meeting with IP to discuss administration in more detail and answer any remaining queries.

Day 7 – By now directors have instructed IP to proceed with helping to place company into administration and become administrators.

 (Where applicable IP speaks with debenture holder regarding strategy and ensures no issues with bank agenda or desire to appoint own IP)

IP recommends specialist insolvency solicitors to help with court application

Day 8 – Directors swear application, IP signs consents to and solicitors lodge ‘Notice of Intention to appoint administrator’ with court

Day 9 – Court processes notice – moratorium granted offering protection. 

Day 10 - 19  Application lodged with court to place into administration

Day 11 - 20  Order granted.  company now in administration.  Administrators take control of company affairs.



Without Moratorium:

Day 1 – Directors have free initial meeting with IP – IP ultimately recommends administration after careful condensation of circumstances and eliminating alternative options

Day 3  Directors second meeting with IP to discuss administration in more detail and answer any remaining queries.

Day 7 – Directors instruct IP to proceed with helping to place company into administration and become administrators

 (Where applicable IP speaks with debenture holder regarding strategy and ensures no issues with bank agenda or desire to appoint own IP)

IP recommends specialist insolvency solicitors to help with court application

Day 8 – Application lodged with court to place into administration

Day 9  Order granted. Company now in administration. Administrators take control of company affairs.
